Plans progressing well at EcoCampus for UWS Lanarkshire Campus

Plans are progressing well following the selection in December 2015 of EcoCampus as the preferred location for the University of the West of Scotland’s (UWS) Lanarkshire campus.

UWS are working closely with HFD Group (HFD) and South Lanarkshire Council (SLC), and are preparing the full business case that would secure approval for development of what will be a truly inspirational and world-class University campus in Lanarkshire. The proposals for EcoCampus, which extends to 224,000 sq. ft. across 3 buildings, could be one of the largest ever letting in the central belt. The proposals could deliver a significant enhancement for regional education facilities and provide a local benefit to communities in Lanarkshire. In selecting EcoCampus as the preferred option, UWS is demonstrating its commitment to Lanarkshire, whilst maintaining Hamilton’s status as a university town.

The proposed new campus site is located 15 miles south east of Glasgow at Hamilton International Technology Park, home to 80 companies including John Lewis, Scottish Power, HSBC, Babcock Rail Training Centre, Carillion, Scottish Gas Academy, and Europa Bilfinger. The popularity of Hamilton International Park with high profile businesses was attractive to UWS, as the location naturally fosters an environment where business and education can share ideas and facilities, an develop mutually beneficial relationships.

Work on the state of the art campus is expected to commence Summer 2016 with the complete facility scheduled to open to students September 2017. The UWS Lanarkshire campus proposals follow on from HFD Group’s previous success working with both Motherwell College and Coatbridge College to provide accommodation for these institutions at Strathclyde Business Park.

Matt Bellshaw of HFD Property Group said: “UWS have a bold and clear vision for education in Lanarkshire and HFD are delighted to be involved in their strategic plans. EcoCampus and Hamilton International Technology Park are a natural fit for their requirements and we are enjoying working closely with them on this exciting project.”
